Valentine Fire Department Recives $500 Donation

VALENTINE, TX (Ben Caxton) — The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department received an unexpected but welcome donation yesterday. Fire Chief Albert Miller. “We just had Electric Transmission Texas which is a division of AEP present us with a check for $500 in recognition of the 1st responder services that fire departments provide for their construction services and for their infrastructure all over Texas. Their welcome donation we’ll make good use of.” Miller, speaking with Roxana Hill of Valentine Radio News said there were a number of ways the department could spend the funds. “We can always upgrade our equipment. Or add more equipment. Or pay for training for our firefighters to go to school. It costs money to go to these schools and that’s probably one of the most important things we can do is get training for the guys to help keep them safe and help keep everybody else safe.” Miller has been Fire Chief in Valentine for about 35 years. The city opened a new firehouse with room for six trucks in February. The department currently has four vehicles. “We provide fire protection at functions in town. The student council’s going to have a bonfire. We provide fire protection for the Valentine’s Day celebration. And anything else, anybody wants to burn in town we provide the trucks and equipment for that.”
