Sul Ross Sports Teams Busy Over The Weekend

ALPINE, TX (Ben Caxton) — Sul Ross State University sports teams had a busy weekend, with mixed results. In football, Mary Hardin-Baylor fought off a resilient second half effort by Sul Ross on its way to a 23-7 ASC-opening victory over the Lobos Saturday night in Belton. The team now enters their bye week this week before hosting McMurry University in the Battle of I-20 on September 23. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, the Sul Ross Volleyball team dropped three straight matches to Pacific University before falling to University of Dallas, 3-1, on day one of the Austin College Invitational. The next day though Autumn Kilpatrick accounted for 23 kills over for a two-match spread as the Sul Ross Lady Lobos split the Saturday competition. Sully fell in a three-set decision to Occidental College in scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-18. then recovered to defeat Louisiana College in a three-game victory, 25-23, 26-24 and 25-22. For a current record of 2-6. In track at the men’s 5k, Friday at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational Joseph Parker placed 14th out of 52 competitors with a time of 16:54. In the women’s 5k, Anahi Uribarri was the highest finisher for Sull Ross with a time of 24:54, good enough for 41st place.
