School Board Election In Valentine Cancelled

VALENTINE, TX (Ben Caxton) — The Valentine ISD School Board met Tuesday night in Valentine. Superintendent Debbie Engle who is in her first year with the district had her contract extended by one year. The board cancelled the upcoming school board election for May as no candidates had filed by Tuesday’s deadline. The current incumbents instead will keep their seats for another term. In other action the board approved changes to its policy manuals to be compliant with federal requirements under the 2015 “Every Student Succeeds Act.” New meeting rules approved will allow the board to be addressed by anyone who completes a form prior to a meeting who then will have five minutes to make their comments. The board is not obligated to respond at that time.
