Saturday Homecoming Festivities Set For Valentine

VALENTINE, TX (Ben Caxton) — Saturday is Homecoming for the Valentine Pirates. This year Homecoming includes a whole day’s worth of events in town, starting with the Homecoming parade at 10:00 AM Saturday morning. Parade entries will be competing for cash prizes. The best float in the parade will win $200 for the 1st place prize. 2nd place is worth $100, and 3rd place $50. If you want to enter a float in the parade head to the Community Center before things get underway and look for Viola Calderon. The parade route runs from the Community Center to Valentine High School Auditorium where the Homecoming King and Queen will be coronated around 10:30. The ex-students association will hold a meeting at the school at 11:00 AM. At noon at the elementary school is the Student Council Famous Hamburger Sale. Saturday afternoon it’s the Washer Tournament on the Community Center grounds. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes of $350, $250, and $100 have been donated for the event. There’ll be DJ music and the center will be open for people to play cards or dominos, but you’ll need to bring your own. The Navarette Arena in Valentine will be hosting Homecoming Team Roping. Books open at 11:00 AM with roping starting at Noon. All donations from the roping event go to the Valentine ISD Scholarship Fund. In the evening at 6:00 PM the student council is putting on a barbecue that includes a raffle for a 55″ flat screen. And from 8:00 PM to Midnight Saturday night you can dance to the music of DJ Tanner Product from El Paso.
