Marfa Has New Private Air Service

MARFA, TX (Ben Caxton) — If you want to fly into Marfa, there’s a new air service ready to take you. The only catch is you’ll have to get to New Mexico first to get on the flight. Francis Aviation, a luxury charter flight, fixed-based operator and jet fuel company based in New Mexico announced this week that they now offer private flights to Marfa from either Dona Ana County International Jetport in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, or the Las Cruces International Airport in Las Cruces. Those who charter the flights will be traveling aboard the King Air. The Director of Charter for Francis Aviation said they can fly up to 9 passengers in a luxury King Air, making the trip to the quirky West Texas town much less daunting. Marfa is a popular part of Texas, but one that is quite difficult to reach. And while Texans are used to driving long distances, Marfa is often just a bit too far out of the way. Most people who visit fly to either the Midland or El Paso airports. But from there it’s still a three-hour drive. By taking one of charter flights, people can arrive at Marfa Municipal Airport itself, which is just three miles outside of the center of town. As an added bonus, many TSA requirements for airline passengers do not have to be met on private flights, making it much easier for passengers to carry on items like hunting and fishing gear.
