It’s The Nightmare Before Christmas In Van Horn

VAN HORN, TX (Ben Caxton) — If you’re in Van Horn, the Town Council wants you to know the clock is ticking. You have just two weeks to save Christmas. At this week’s meeting, the Council asked The Van Horn Advocate to get the word out to local residents that the Lighted Christmas Parade activities are in danger of being canceled due to lack of participation. City secretary Fran Malafronte said less than a handful of floats participated in last year’s parade even with monetary prizes awarded to first, second, and third place entries. Problems caused by conflicting school schedules have kept student-athletes, band members, families from participating in the event as they had in years past. Decreased local club and civic group participation has also been an issue. The city says firm commitments from the community are needed in order for the tradition to continue this year. They ask that people interested contact City Hall or any City Aldermen and let them know your opinions. The fate of the Town of Van Horn Lighted Christmas Parade will be decided one way or the other at the next regular meeting on October 30.
