Fort Worth Student Dies Hiking In Fort Davis Mountains

FORT DAVIS, TX (Ben Caxton) — A Forth Worth High School student has died hiking in the Fort DavisMountains near Balmorhea. With temperatures hovering around the 100-degree mark teenager John Reid Comita collapsed while hiking at the Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch around 6:30 PM Tuesday evening, According to a Facebook post by his father, John Comita, Sr., paramedics and guides performed CPR for one-and-a-half hours to no avail. A helicopter from the U.S. Border Patrol was called in but did not arrive in time to evacuate Reid, Jr. before he died. A sheriff’s official reported to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Comita may have died after suffering from heat stroke, and said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
