Cruz Now Outraising O’Rourke In Senate Race

TRANS PECOS, TX (Ben Caxton) — Trans Pecos voters will be selecting someone to represent them in the United States Senate next fall. West Texas Democrat hopeful U.S. Representative Beto O’Rourke of El Paso gained an early lead on Senator Ted Cruz in fundraising when he announced his challenge to the sitting Senator a few months ago. But Cruz has caught up according to documents filed by both campaigns. In the third quarter, Cruz raised over $2 million for his re-election campaign and its allied groups, his team announced Wednesday, shortly after O’Rourke’s campaign unveiled his haul for the three-month period: $1.7 million. Despite the closeness of the amounts raised in the last period, Cruz has a lot more money in the bank to fund his statewide campaign than O’Rourke. Cruz reportedly has $6.38M cash on hand at this point to O’Rourke’s $2.8M.
