County To Approve Bigger Budget On September 21

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, TX (Ben Caxton) — After two public hearings and official publication in the Fort Davis Mountain Register it’s about all over but the shouting. The budget in Jeff Davis is scheduled to go up. The actual tax rate will be going down, but that doesn’t mean property owners won’t be paying more this year than last. That’s because property valuations across the county increased substantially this year. So the county will be taking a smaller bite of your newly more expensive home’s worth. Essentially the county will up spending by 6.8% next year, from $1,42M last year, to $1.52M next year. At the same time, the tax rate will drop from about $6.80 per $100 valuation to $6.56. The vote is scheduled for 9:00 AM on September 21st at the Jeff Davis County Courtroom at 100 Court Avenue in Fort Davis.
