Annual Medical Fair In Alpine This Weekend

ALPINE, TX (Ben Caxton) — Events this weekend include one of the biggest annual medical fairs across the Trans Pecos taking place in Alpine. Roxana Hill spoke with Ruth Hucke of the Big Bend Regional Medical Center about the fair. “It is an annual thing every year. This is one of the bigger ones we’ve had as of late. We have about 30 vendors. So it is quite a large gathering.” Hucke says they have had good crowds through the years and she’s hoping for a good turnout again this time around “I am hoping for a large turn out this year. I don’t really even have a guess at a number but approximately maybe 200 people or so. We have everything from a fire truck, a medical helicopter there for show and tell, a lot of informational booths, and even microderm facials and free hearing tests. We also have a distracted driver simulator. I haven’t personally done it but I am looking forward to doing it. I guess it shows you what it’s like to be driving as a distracted driver and how dangerous that can be.” Of all the exhibits Huck says she has one favorite she’s waiting to try. “I’m very curious about the distracted driving simulator. I think it is very beneficial. Not just with young drivers, I mean with adult drivers as well. I think a lot of us tend to maybe want to glance at our phone or even play with the radio. All those little distractions that tend to happen to us while we’re drivers. But then there’s also the interactive booths. Maybe you need your hearing checked. Or Blood pressure checked. Those kind of things.” The Health Fair is tomorrow at the Alpine Civic Center from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. “It is free to the public. So if you have any health questions please come and join us and see what booths can answer the questions that you may have.”
